Who a mental health IOP is for

A mental health IOP sits between weekly therapy and a hospital stay. It is built for people whose anxiety, depression, trauma, or mood symptoms have grown bigger than a single session a week can hold, but who do not need round-the-clock care. You keep living at home, working, parenting, or studying, and you get structured support several days a week. It may be the right fit if any of these sound like you:

  • Weekly therapy is helping, but it is not enough right now
  • You are stepping down after a hospital stay or a mental health crisis
  • You are living with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, ADHD, BPD, or DID
  • Substance use has crept in alongside your mental health, and both need attention
  • You have a safe, stable place to live during treatment

What the program includes

Every plan is personal, and nearly every plan includes these.

  • Individual therapy with your own therapist
  • Small group therapy focused on mental health, with people who understand
  • CBT and DBT, the evidence-based core of our therapy
  • Trauma-informed care, at a pace your nervous system can trust
  • Family sessions and family education
  • Dual diagnosis care when substance use is part of the picture
  • Art therapy, yoga therapy, and mindfulness
  • Case management and medication monitoring support
  • Aftercare planning before you finish, so progress has somewhere to go

Your first week

From the first call to your first sessions, here is how it works.

1

A confidential first call

It takes about 15 to 30 minutes. We listen to what has been going on, answer your questions, and verify your insurance for free, often the same day. No pressure, no judgment.

2

Assessment and your plan

A private clinical assessment looks at your mental health, your history, and anything else that is part of the picture, including substance use if it is present. You do not need a diagnosis to start. From there we build a personalized plan and a schedule that works with your life.

3

Start within days

Most people begin within days of their first call, and same-day admission is often available when the need is urgent. Sessions meet at our Glendora center, on the schedule you chose together.

4

Check in, adjust, step down

At the end of your first week we review how it is going and adjust. As you progress through your 30, 60, or 90 day track, we plan your step down to weekly outpatient care and aftercare together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Anything else? Call us, day or night.

What is a mental health IOP?

IOP stands for Intensive Outpatient Program: structured group and individual therapy several days a week, typically 9 to 15 hours in total, while you live at home. A mental health IOP applies that structure to conditions like anxiety, depression, trauma, and bipolar disorder, so you get more support than weekly therapy without a hospital stay.

Do I need a diagnosis before I start?

No. You start with a confidential clinical assessment, and our team helps you understand what is going on and which level of care fits. If you already have a therapist or a diagnosis, we build on that instead of starting over.

How is an IOP different from seeing a therapist once a week?

Hours and structure. Weekly therapy gives you one hour to work through the week. IOP gives you several days a week of group and individual therapy, skills practice with CBT and DBT, family involvement, and a care team that sees you often enough to adjust quickly when something is not working.

Which conditions does the program treat?

We treat anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, trauma, OCD, ADHD, borderline personality disorder, and dissociative identity disorder, in adults. If you are not sure what you are dealing with, that is okay: the assessment is where we figure it out together.

What if I also drink or use substances?

You are in the right place. Mental health and substance use feed each other, and treating one while ignoring the other rarely holds. Our dual diagnosis care treats both together, in the same program, with the same team.

Can I keep working or going to school?

Many people do. The program meets in the afternoons, several days a week, and your care team plans your track with your job, your classes, or your family in mind. Talk with admissions about your schedule before you start, and they will help you find the fit.

Does insurance cover a mental health IOP?

Most major PPO and HMO plans cover IOP for mental health. We verify your benefits for free, usually within minutes, with no obligation. We do not accept Medi-Cal at this time.

What if I am in crisis right now?

If you are thinking about harming yourself or someone else, or you are in immediate danger, please do not wait for an intake process. Call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or call 911. When the immediate crisis has passed, we are here 24/7 at (626) 594-0881 to talk about what comes next.
