Bipolar Disorder Treatment
The highs and the crashes are not a character flaw. Bipolar disorder is a medical condition, and it responds to steady, structured treatment. Warm, evidence-based outpatient care in Glendora, in English and Spanish.
What bipolar disorder can look like
Bipolar disorder moves in episodes that last days or weeks, not moods that flip by the hour. It is often mistaken for depression, because most people first seek help during a low.
During a manic or hypomanic episode
- Unusual energy with little need for sleep
- Racing thoughts and rapid, pressured speech
- Big impulsive decisions: spending, risks, sudden plans
- Feeling invincible, or unusually irritable and short-fused
- Starting many projects and finishing none
During a depressive episode
- Deep sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness
- Exhaustion and losing interest in everything
- Sleep and appetite swinging in either direction
- Trouble concentrating or making decisions
- Thoughts of death or self-harm
Patterns over time
- Episodes lasting days to weeks, with steadier stretches between
- Treatment for depression alone has not worked
- Jobs and relationships strained by the cycles
- Using alcohol or other substances to level out
- Family members noticing the shifts before you do
How we treat bipolar disorder
We treat bipolar I, bipolar II, and cyclothymia in an outpatient setting. Therapy focuses on what keeps episodes at bay: CBT, DBT skills for intense emotions, steady sleep and daily rhythms, early-warning-sign plans, and real family involvement. Our mental health program meets in the afternoons.
Partial Hospitalization (PHP)
Daily structure while you find your footing after an episode, without an overnight stay. Consistent routines are treatment for bipolar disorder, and PHP builds them in.
Learn moreIntensive Outpatient (IOP)
Several sessions a week around work and school. Skills, support, and a plan for catching the next episode early.
Learn moreOutpatient Care
Ongoing therapy to protect your stability for the long run, especially after a more intensive program.
Learn moreDual Diagnosis Care
Many people with bipolar disorder use alcohol or other substances to ride out the highs and lows. We treat both together, in one plan.
Learn moreIf you are in crisis, call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) anytime, or call 911 in an emergency. If you are in a severe manic or psychotic episode, a hospital is the safest place to stabilize first. We are the step that comes after: call us at (626) 594-0881 and we will help you plan it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Anything else? Call us, day or night.
How is bipolar disorder different from ordinary mood swings?
Everyone has good days and bad days. Bipolar episodes are different: they last days to weeks, they are out of proportion to what is happening around you, and they change how you sleep, spend, talk, and decide. If the people close to you notice distinct "up" and "down" versions of you, it is worth a careful assessment.
Will I need medication?
For most people with bipolar disorder, medication is a central part of staying well, alongside therapy. We do not prescribe on site: we coordinate closely with your prescriber, or help you connect with one, and our program supports the sleep, routine, and follow-through that help medication do its job.
Can bipolar disorder really be treated in an outpatient program?
Yes, and for most of life with bipolar disorder, outpatient is exactly the right level. Severe manic or psychotic episodes may need a hospital first, and we will say so honestly. Once you are safe, PHP or IOP is where the day-to-day work of stability happens: skills, structure, and an early-warning plan.
What if I have been using alcohol or other substances too?
That is extremely common with bipolar disorder, and it makes episodes harder to see and harder to manage. We are a dual diagnosis center, so we treat the bipolar disorder and the substance use together, in one plan, without judgment.
Does insurance cover bipolar disorder treatment?
Most major PPO and HMO plans cover mental health treatment. We verify your benefits for free, with no obligation. We do not accept Medi-Cal at this time.
