Has your teen had problems with addiction? Are they struggling with their mental health? Our teen group therapy sessions at Glendora Recovery Center can help with that and more. Here, we offer many different treatments for adolescents. Each of our treatment programs is tailored to their exact, specific needs. That said, just about every teen treatment program will involve group therapy for a variety of reasons.
How Group Teen Therapy Works at Glendora Recovery Center
We’ve found that teens respond best to being in treatment with other teenagers. Instead of being surrounded by adults, those whom they have nothing in common with, they’re in groups with their peers. Specifically, they’re with peers who are experiencing the same struggles that they are.
So, they can develop any number of skills in these groups. Each teen builds the ability to speak up, express themselves, build social skills, and much more.
What Teen Group Therapy Builds Upon
Many teens who struggle with addiction and/or their mental health feel isolated and rejected. They may be bullied, they may be shy, and so forth. In group therapy, they’ll be in a safe, secure place to work on all of that.
Here, in groups moderated by an experienced professional, they’ll be able to better express themselves, to connect to others in healthy, positive ways. By connecting to other teenagers, they’ll be able to lower their stress levels, to be a part of a welcoming community that accepts them for who they are.
Over time, they’ll develop the kinds of lasting skills that can help them not just as teenagers but for the rest of their lives.
The Benefits of Teen Therapy in Groups
Many teenagers, when they initially come to our groups, are hesitant at first. But, in a short period of time, they see that there are teenagers who have been in the group for a while just like them. They learn from each other. They develop healthy, positive, beneficial relationships.
These groups are a place where teens can practice social skills safely. Then, once the teens who have been there for a while move on, the newer teens become the more experienced ones, the ones who are looked to by those who just entered the group. This kind of peer interaction can provide a great foundation for both treatment and growth.
More Than Therapy for Teens Here
Group therapy is an effective part of our adolescent treatment, yes, but it’s far from all that we offer. Indeed, we have Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient programs for teenagers. Each of these is specifically tailored to provide an adolescent with the treatment that’s just right for them and not for someone else.
If you believe that your teenager could benefit from treatment, it’s worth it to reach out to us. An experienced clinical professional from our staff can talk to you and see if there’s a way we can help. For more, contact us through our site or call.
