Mental health recovery steps: your guide for lasting change

A partial hospitalization program is the most structured level of care we offer at Glendora Recovery Center, built for people who need intensive, daily support for addiction or a mental health condition while still living at home. You attend treatment for several hours a day, several days a week, and return to your own bed each evening. It’s a way to give recovery your full focus without stepping away from family, housing, or the life you’re working to protect.

If you’ve been searching for a program that’s intensive but still lets you stay in your community, our PHP in Glendora may be the right starting point. To learn more or begin, verify your insurance or call our admissions team at (626) 649-3758.

What Is a Partial Hospitalization Program?

PHP sits at the top of the outpatient continuum. It delivers a level of clinical intensity close to round-the-clock care, but on an outpatient basis — you spend your days in treatment and your nights at home. For many people, that combination is exactly right: enough structure to interrupt the cycle of addiction, enough freedom to keep practicing recovery in the real world.

At Glendora Recovery Center, PHP blends individual therapy, group therapy, and education into a full daily schedule. As you stabilize, you can step down into our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and then into aftercare, so support tapers gradually rather than ending all at once.

What to Expect From PHP at Glendora Recovery Center

Your program begins with an intake session. A member of our clinical staff completes a thorough evaluation covering your physical history, your relationship with substances, your mental health, and the parts of your life recovery touches. From there, we build a treatment plan designed specifically for you.

No two PHP experiences look the same, but nearly every plan includes one-on-one therapy and group therapy led by trained, experienced clinicians. You’ll build practical skills for staying sober and for living well — alongside work on the underlying causes of your struggles, so you’re addressing the root and not just the symptoms. We also fold in nutrition, physical wellness, and relapse prevention so the gains hold after you leave.

How Long Does PHP Last?

Length of stay depends on what our clinical team determines is right for you. Most people attend three or more hours a day, up to five days a week, with discharge planning built in from day one. For the majority of patients, PHP runs roughly two to three weeks before stepping down to a less intensive level of care.

That’s a meaningful time commitment — and it’s also what makes PHP effective. More hours in treatment means more time with your care team and more focused attention on what you specifically need to recover.

Verify your insurance or call (626) 649-3758 to find out whether PHP is the right fit.

Treating Addiction and Mental Health Together

Substance use and mental health rarely travel alone. Our PHP is equipped to treat co-occurring conditions — addiction and a mental health diagnosis — at the same time, rather than treating one and leaving the other untouched. That integrated approach is one of the strongest predictors of lasting recovery.

We provide care for conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, bipolar disorder, and ADHD, and we treat addiction to substances such as alcohol, cocaine, heroin, prescription opioids, fentanyl, and benzodiazepines.

Therapies That Support Your PHP

Clinical therapy is the backbone of PHP, supported by experiential and evidence-based approaches that help you process emotions and rebuild healthy routines. Alongside individual and group work, your plan may include EMDR therapy for trauma, art therapy, and yoga therapy, as well as dedicated individual therapy sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a partial hospitalization program (PHP)? PHP is the most structured level of outpatient care. You attend treatment for several hours a day, multiple days a week, and go home each evening. It offers near-daily clinical support for addiction and mental health while letting you stay connected to home and community.

How is PHP different from residential treatment? The main difference is where you sleep. PHP is an outpatient program — you return home each night — while residential programs require an overnight stay. At Glendora Recovery Center, PHP is delivered entirely on an outpatient basis, which lets many people maintain work, school, and family responsibilities during treatment.

How long does PHP last at Glendora Recovery Center? For most patients, PHP runs about two to three weeks, with three or more hours of treatment per day, up to five days a week. Your exact length of stay is set by your clinical team based on your progress.

Does PHP treat mental health conditions too, or only addiction? Both. Our PHP is built to treat co-occurring disorders, addressing a mental health diagnosis and a substance use disorder at the same time. Treating them together leads to stronger, more durable outcomes.

Who is a good candidate for PHP? PHP is well suited to people who need intensive, daily structure but have a stable, safe living situation to return to at night. It’s also a strong fit for anyone stepping toward a less intensive program while still needing significant support.

Will my insurance cover PHP? We accept most major HMO and PPO plans and will verify your specific benefits before you start, at no cost to you. We do not currently accept Medi-Cal. Verify your insurance to see what’s covered.

What happens after I finish PHP? Most people step down into our Intensive Outpatient Program and then into aftercare. This gradual taper helps you carry new skills into everyday life with continued support.

Where is your PHP located? We’re at 1340 E. Route 66 Street, Glendora, CA 91740, serving Glendora and nearby San Gabriel Valley communities including La Verne, San Dimas, Azusa, Covina, West Covina, and Walnut.
